Alsace is in the north east of France and consists of 2 Departments, 67 Bas Rhin and 68 Haut Rhin. The prefecture of the region is Strasbourg.
Bordered by the Rhine and Vosges mountains, Alsace has changed hands many times over the years and the buildings and lifestyle highlight this in a unique way. Wine from the region are also are distinctly different from other French wines being made from the Tokay and Pinot Gris grape.
Typical of the Germanic background are the not to be missed sights of the buildings in Eguisheim and Colmar. The Haut Koenigsbourg Castle perched on the edge of the Vosges, overlooking the Rhine Valley, is also well worth visiting. In this area you will see many storks nesting on top of the chimneys and church towers.
